Late 1980s-90s Vintage Onkyo M-5140 Power Amplifier. This amp utilizes Sanyo STK4044 V's thick film Hybrid IC's , similar to many receivers and amplifiers of this timeframe. The output caps are Nichicon and are in good condition. This unit utilizes one of Onkyo's Delta Line Powers Supply and typical large Power Transformer, although for some reason its not listed on the front of the unit. (see photos).

Condition: This amp was serviced by DLAAUDIO on 8/26/24, all components were tested, and out of spec including left channel STK 4044 V's were replaced. The heatsink was removed and cleaned, and both STK's were bedded with new thermal compound to assist in heat transfer. We replaced the internal fuse holder itself, as this is a known issue (corrosion). The amp is in good working order and meets all critical output specs (RMS) output. A copy of the service manual is available if you bring a USB drive. The amps physical condition is about 7 out of 10 due, it has some scratches on faceplate top and around chassis.

Other Features: The center bar on the front is an AC Power On Indicator, not a level indicator. To the left is the Protection Circuitry Overload Indicator, comes on briefly during start up during normal operation. The amplifier has spring loaded rear speaker terminals, better than most this style, for up to two pairs of speakers. These can be selected from the front panel. Both A &B Speakers have Green LED on indicators.

My Thoughts: The amp was tested and sounds very clean, and dynamic, with output consistent with its THD rating. This amplifier is rated to 105 watts per channel RMS. Actually I was quite surprised how it sounded, very dynamic soundstage, and seemed to have ample headroom for my larger DCM Timeframe (TF 1000s and TF600s maintained by DALAUDIO) which we use for auditions as we are familiar with them. Based on the sound and condition, we price the unit. Its a good name brand, made in Japan and its a fair price for the quality.

Note 1: These amps prefer 8 Ohm speakers. We do not recommend 4 Ohm speakers unless the amp has adequate cooling (nothing placed on it, and not in a cabinet).
